Fees & Rebates

Fees

I aim to keep my fees below the Australian Psychological Society (APS) Schedule of Recommended Fees (2023-2024) which recommends a fee of $300.00 per standard consultation (40-60 minutes) session. Depending on your situation, you may qualify for rebates through Medicare or your private health insurance. Kindly refer to the fee schedule below for further details.

Rebates

Medicare rebates are accessible for psychology patients referred by a General Practitioner (GP) using one of the three pathways below, or a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician.

Rebates as at February 2024 (please check with Medicare for updates) for psychology services provided by a Registered Psychologist:

  • Medicare rebate for individual standard appointments: $93.35

  • Medicare rebate for group therapy sessions (per group session attended): $32.45

Accessing Medicare via your General Practitioner

There are three pathways for accessing Medicare rebates with a GP referral:

  1. Mental Health Care Plan - This plan allows you to access Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual psychology sessions in a calendar year via the Better Access initiative. Please book an extended consultation with your GP to allow them sufficient time to complete the plan. Medicare rebates are granted for face-to-face and telehealth sessions. Please note that medicare rebates for group services are separate and do not count towards the maximum 10 individual sessions per calendar year (i.e. you may access group sessions in addition to your 10 individual sessions).

  2. Eating Disorder Treatment Pathway - This option allows individuals who have an eating disorder diagnosis (i.e. according to specific diagnostic criteria) to access a total of 40 psychology sessions, focussed on specific evidence-based treatments for eating disorders, per calendar year.

  3. Chronic Disease Management Plan - this plan is for individuals who have a chronic medical condition or complex medical needs (i.e. for a minimum of 6 months). This plan provides Medicare rebates for up to 5 sessions with an allied health professional.

Please visit your general practitioner to see if you are eligible for one of these plans.

Private Health Insurance

Some private health insurance plans provide private rebates for psychology. Please contact your private health insurance provider for details about your eligibility for a private insurance rebate. Please note that Medicare does not allow you to claim both a Medicare benefit and a private health insurance rebate for any one individual session. Rather, you can access one or the other rebate at a time.
