Meet Cherie
Hello, my name is Cherie Sonnenburg and I am a registered psychologist with a Master of Clinical Psychology. I offer individual psychotherapy for adults and young people (aged 16 and over) who wish to address mental health concerns, deepen self-understanding, and form meaning around their experiences. I do my best to provide every client with a warm and non-judgemental environment to allow for supported reflection and exploration of issues that cannot be worked through alone. I work in a collaborative and non-judgemental manner where we can actively engage together in a process of exploration and change towards meeting your individual aims and goals.

I also see individuals with the following specific concerns:

Complex, developmental, and sexual trauma

I have a particular interest in working with individuals with complex childhood trauma histories who wish to heal from past traumas that may be impacting on their current relationships both with others, and themselves.

My practice draws upon experience working within the private psychiatric hospital system, high school setting, community organisations, and private practice. I have conducted research in the area of postnatal depression, and co-authored academic publications on the role of social “good mother” ideals on women in postnatal depression, the treatment of Bipolar Mood Disorder, and the dynamics of workplace bullying. I hold professional membership with the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc (AAPi) and the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (IARPP).
